You may not ever race, but why not learn something new that could make you a better rider…

Based on the enthusiasm from the previous post on ABA racing, I would encourage any new racers to do the ABA Learn to Race series.  – Jason Yanota

2019 Kick Off Night – March 14 at 7 pm at Ridley’s Cycle

February 2019
Hello HCC friends!
We are so fortunate to have Strava so we can keep touch with each other and see all the motivational riding that’s been going on over the winter.

Kick Off Night

Ridley’s will be hosting our KICK OFF THE SEASON evening on Thursday, March 14 at 7 pm. It will be great to see everyone again! Like last year, Ridley’s will be offering a discounted “bulk” pre-season order on tubes, Gatorskin 25c and 28c tires, CO2 stuff, selected head & tail lights and 30% off the pre-order of the BRAND NEW Ridley’s kits (bib shorts & jerseys).
PS – Pub Nights, in support of the Okotoks Food Bank, were hugely successful in 2018. They are returning the last Thursdays of the month, April to September 2019. A huge thank you to Ridley’s for continuing this club favourite.

2019 HCC Registration

Registration through Zone 4 will be open by Kick Off Night, March 14. Along with your membership, you are able to order a HCC t-shirt for $20. There will be a cut off date for ordering a shirt with your registration is so make sure you get yours done early. Shirts will be available in men’s or women’s sizing and sourced from a local company. Any questions about the shirts, just ask one of the members from last year.

Ride types, days and times

Although many of us head out earlier in the spring, Highwood Cycling Club road riding season formally begins the first week in April. Members can meet for rides up to four times per week, all starting and finishing at Ridley’s Cycle in Okotoks.
Tuesday Social Ride – 6 pm – we repeat SOCIAL ride! This means a moderate pace and no-drop ride. Easily, our most popular of the weekly rides, it’s a great opportunity to meet other cyclists and explore our expanse of paved roads in the area. This is our largest weekly ride.
Wednesday Women’s Ride – 9 am. Average pace 22-26 kph. Please note: Last year, we did have several men regularly riding with us. If this fits in your weekly schedule, please ask Sonya about her two simple ride rules.
Thursday Ride – 6 pm – consisting of 2 pace groups: ‘the fast group’ and ‘the other group’.
Saturday Endurance Ride – 9 am – 50-100k, usually splits into two distance groups.
In addition, we have a number of special event rides throughout the season. Be sure to watch our website and Facebook Events for up-to-date info on these rides. Dates and locations change every year. If you have a suggestions for 2019, please email us!
Short notice rides (lead by club members) and special event rides will also be updated on Strava and Facebook, under our club name.

2019 Official & Alternative Kits

A huge thank you to Walter for continuing to look after the HCC kits for our club. In 2018 we launched the “official” kit and an alternative kit (ladies, you’re going to love. You’ll have your choice of two different fits and all designs are available in men’s and women’s sizing. The online kit store will be open by Kick Off Night, March 14, and first shipment will arrive around June 1st.
.

By this time of the year, we are all “socially deprived”. Looking forward to seeing all our cycling friends on March 14th at Ridley’s!
